Process - Ego, Who Do You Think You Are?

From Friendship With God (page 78/79)

"The only way for you to experience the magnificence of being One with everything is for there to be some state or condition in which not being One with everything is possible.
Yet since everything is One in the Realm of the Absolute - which is the ultimate reality - something not being One with everything is impossible.
What is not impossible, however, is the illusion of not being One with everything.
It was for the purpose of creating this illusion, then, that the Realm of the Relative was created.
It is like an Alice-in-Wonderland world, in which things are not what they seem to be, and in which things seem to be what they are not.
Your ego is your chief tool in creating this illusion.
It is that device which allows you to imagine your Self as separate from All the Rest of You.
It is the part of you that thinks of you as being an individual."

If you have pursued any kind of spiritual path you are bound to have come across the concept of Ego.  Many spiritual teachers describe the Ego as something that is the opposite of all that is pure and spiritual and as such should be suppressed or banished.  Some have even given the Ego the acronym "Edging God Out".  We could be forgiven for being thoroughly confused about the role of the Ego.  We could also be forgiven for feeling very uncomfortable with the thought of suppressing or banishing any part of our being as in many ways this seems a very egotistical thing to do!

If we are to accept the Ego as being "bad" then the following question is likely to cause and internal conflict: "If God is the creator of the Universe and you and I are made in the image and likeness of God and God is pure unconditional Love - where the hell did a "bad" Ego come from?  (or Satan and evil for that matter!).  It is totally illogical and contradictory to hold the belief that a Creator we will call God is unconditionally good and something God has created - the Ego is bad!

Enter Friendship With God, with an explanation of Ego that actually made sense.  Some qualities found in the Conversations With God trilogy and Friendship with God are symmetry, continuity, logic and non attachment to outcome.  As human beings we very rarely demonstrate these qualities no matter how highly evolved we consider ourselves to be.  A way we can experience more of these qualities in our lives is to have a better understanding of what Ego is and how to use it.

To understand the concept of Ego we need to have a context within which to work and we can achieve this in true NLP fashion by defining some presuppositions derived from the ideas presented in CWG, FWG and other teachings.  These ideas are not new and have been part of spiritual teachings for thousands of years:

  • There are two Realms in which we exist; the Realm of the Absolute and the Realm of the Relative.
  • The Realm of the Absolute (RoA) is where we came from before taking physical form and where we return to when we drop the physical body.  In the RoA we exist as energetic bundles of ideas and concepts, we could call this bundle Spirit or Soul.  In the RoA we know conceptually all there is to be known.
  • The Realm of the Relative (RoR) is where we think we are now.  Here we allow our energetic bundle to take physical form which we call a body.  Here we come to know experientially that which we know conceptually in the Realm of the Absolute.
  • Everything and everybody is connected.  At the sub-atomic quantum level modern science is proving experimentally all things are made of the same (non) stuff.  Deepak Chopra describes this as a "Quantum Soup".
  • This Quantum Soup contains the totality of all that is, was and will ever be.
  • This Quantum Soup is intelligent and is influenced by our observation of it.
  • We are able to influence with our attention (thoughts) the very stuff from which we are made.  "You become what you think about" appears to be a true statement.

Quantum science is confirming experimentally what ancient spiritual wisdom has been conceptualising for thousands of years - we are all made of the same intelligent, thinking, non-stuff.  "We are all One" is now more than a spiritual cliché, it is a scientific fact.

Ego - Who Do You Think You Are Process Version 3.6
Warning
Depending on the individual going through the process (from hereon known as the "Explorer") some of these processes can lead to a temporary feeling of confusion or disorientation.  Far from being a "bad" thing this could indicate a degree of internal re-alignment leading to positive change.  Always follow the Guidelines for creating an "Earth Point" where the Explorer can return to at any time during the process.  As a general rule do not drive or do anything else that may put yourself or other people at risk having been through a process, give yourself plenty of time to re-adjust.  This rule applies to both Guide and Explorer.  If for any reason you doubt you can safely complete a process do not attempt to do so.  If you doubt your ability to safely act as Guide please do not do so.  These processes are shared in the spirit of Self Leadership, please be sensible and take complete responsibility for your own actions.

Intentions for this Process

  • To know your Ego is who you think you are
  • To know Ego is the tool used to create the illusion of separation from the Divine Whole
  • To know your Ego creates the illusion of separation so that you may experience Unity
  • To know Ego like everything else is a Divine gift.

  1. Earth Point
Step into this space and fully experience a time when you felt totally connected with your surroundings.
Know that you can return here and be totally grounded at anytime during the process.
Step into the Realm of the Absolute space.

  2. Realm of the Absolute
Here you know we are all One.
Your Soul longs to experience Who You Really Are.
Your Soul separates from the Divine Whole of which it is still a part by creating the illusion of separation.
    Step into the Ego space.

  3. Ego
Your Ego is the chief tool used in creating the illusion of separation.
Your Ego creates the illusion of Separation so that you may experience Unity.
This illusion is who you think you are.
Step into the Realm of the Relative bringing this awareness of your Ego with you.

  4. Realm of the Relative - Illusion of Separation
You have chosen to enter into the illusion of separation.
Here you encounter people and situations that make real the illusion of separation.
Notice how easily your Ego becomes attached to the illusion of separation.
Step into the Realm of the Absolute bringing this attachment to the illusion with you.

  5. Realm of the Absolute - Experience Unity
You have chosen to experience Unity.
Here you know we are all One.
You can now experience Unity because you know the illusion of separation.
Notice how the experience of Unity releases the attachment to the illusion of separation.
Fully experience Being in the state of Unity.
    Step into the Ego Space.

  6. Ego
Know that your Ego is the essential tool for creating the illusion of separation.
Through knowing the illusion of separation you can experience Unity.
Know that you have the Free Will to use your Ego in the way that it best serves you.
Taking all the time you need, become present with this knowing.

End of process.
