Welcome to the December Mission Coach newsletter.
With the new year just days away, I would like to thank you for reading this newsletter (or at least receiving it!) and wish you a very happy New Year.

This month, in part 3 of our exploration of the ego, we explore one of the most challenging aspects of the ego to understand and accept; if we really are “all One” that includes everyone, and excludes no one, which leads us to a very interesting question . . .

 This Month's Article
Ego - Who (on Earth) Do You Think You Are?
(Part 3 Ver 1.0)
If We Are All Individuations of God - Why Are Some People Evil, Sadistic
B*st*rds?

Outcomes for this Article

  • to recap on the ego so far
  • to discover what makes a hero a hero
  • to discover why we need heroes and villains

The Ego So Far
Please see the October and November newsletters for parts 1 and 2 of this article (there is a link to the archive at the bottom of this newsletter). Here is a summary of the story so far:

  1. The Realm of the Absolute is the "Ultimate" and Only reality.
  2. The Realm of the Absolute exists as a Singularity, in a Singularity time does not exist.
  3. If there is no time, there can be no “gap” or separation between entities (Beings).
  4. If there can be no separation between Beings in this Ultimate and only Reality, there can be only One Ultimate Being – let’s call it: God / Allah / Krishna / Whatevah.
  5. If there is only One Ultimate Being - you and I must be it.
  6. But “You and I” Being “You” and “I” (i.e. separate) is impossible because we are One Being. What is not impossible is to create the illusion of separation by God “individuating” into the illusion of You, me, and 6 billion other entities we call “Human Beings”.
  7. If there is only One Ultimate Being - every plant, animal, mountain, grain of sand, the Earth, the sun, the whole Universe must be an individuation of God too and part of the illusion of the Realm of the Relative.
  8. If we are all individuations of God that excludes no one, includes everyone, from the saint to the most evil, sadistic [1] human being whoever walked the planet, all must be God “in all God’s distressing disguises” [2].
  9. As an individuation of an Unconditionally Loving God, you and I have the Free Will to choose which role to play in the illusion of the Realm of the Relative: Saint, evil sadist, or someone else [3].
  10. Our ego, which is who we “think” we are, is the “chief tool” [4] in creating the illusion of the role we have chosen to play.

If We Are All Individuations of God, Why Are Some People Evil?

What we are about to explore is (in my opinion) one of the most challenging aspects of the ego, and of Spirituality as a whole to understand, and once understood, it is even more difficult to accept as being true! Before we dive into this exploration, there are two new concepts to introduce . . .

The first concept is given in a word in presupposition[5] 6 above. Here is the dictionary definition of the word “individuating”:

“to form into a separate, distinct entity”

To apply this definition to our situation here in the Realm of the Relative we need to modify it slightly:

“to create the illusion of form into a separate, distinct entity”

If we can accept (for the next few moments at least) the 10 presuppositions above to be true, or at least plausible, then good questions to ask now would be:

  • Why would an entity, an individuation of God, choose to individuate into an evil sadist?
  • Why would an entity, an individuation of God choose to individuate into a child born into poverty who dies in the gutter at the age of 3?

Part of the answer to these questions is this:
As an individuation of an Unconditionally Loving God, the entity has the Free Will to choose to enter the illusion of the Realm of the Relative playing any role they choose to play. An entity does this in much the same way as an actor may choose to play a challenging role (and for similar reasons – as we shall see).

To go deeper into the answer to these questions we need to introduce a second concept brought to us by CWG/FWG [6]:

“In the absence of that which you are not, that which you are, is not.”

To explore the meaning of this, I would like to share with you a story - about a story . . .
For about 3 years I have been writing a novel. I had written 80,000 words (probably more) before I realised that what I was writing was not good enough to be published. The story lacked purpose and direction, the hero was not very heroic and the characters, some of whom I wanted to portray as “enlightened” were just too perfect. In other words it was a “nice” story - it was also boring!

I looked around for a “structure” for a good novel, a way of putting the story together that would keep the reader turning the pages, and eventually I found one [7]. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that to make my story a best seller, my hero needed to repeatedly strive – and fail to achieve his objectives. To make matters worse I needed to create at least three disasters the poor guy had to deal with and the first disaster was to happen at the beginning of chapter one! I also needed to create at least one villain, preferably more. In short, to make my hero heroic (and the story interesting) he had to deal with horrible situations and nasty people. Only at the last minute, almost the last page, would he overcome all the obstacles, achieve his objective and walk away triumphant - a hero.

Let’s see how this “in the absence of . . .” quote from CWG could be the secret formula for creating an international best seller:

“In the absence of horrible situations and nasty people, that which a hero is  (heroic) - is not.”

Or to put it another way:

Without horrible situations, nasty people, or both, a human Being, has only the potential to experience Being a hero.

What makes a hero, and what makes a best seller is:

  1. the presence of challenging situations and/or challenging people
  2. the hero choosing to do something about the situation and/or the people
  3. the hero risking something of value in the event of failure

The “level” of heroism is determined by points 1 and 3 above; the greater the scale and severity of the situation, or, the greater the risk, or both, the greater the act of heroism.

We can see the truth of this by looking at some real life heroes:

  • What made Mother Teresa a hero was the scale and severity of the plight of those she chose to help.
  • What made Churchill a great leader was the scale and severity of World War II, some nasty people, and the risks he took with the lives of those he chose to lead and command.
  • What makes Ellen MacArthur (now Dame Ellen), the round-the-world Yacht’s woman a hero is that she chooses to put herself into dangerous situations (big waves in the South Atlantic) and risks her life by doing so.

Now let’s add 2 more components to the “what makes a hero” list above:

  • for us to have the experience of Being anything, we must have or create [8], the opportunity to have that experience.
  • when confronted with the opportunity, we must exercise our Free Will to choose which path of experience to take – hero, or something else.

It is easy to apply these 2 components to Ellen MacArthur’s type of heroism:

  • For Ellen MacArthur (and the world) to have the experience of heroism (although Ellen may not think of it that way) Ellen, of her own Free Will, takes the opportunity to single handedly sail a boat around the world through dangerous waters.

It is when we apply the components of “opportunity” and “choice” to Mother Teresa and Churchill that things start to get tricky. Why? – let’s find out:

  • For Mother Teresa (and the world) to have the experience of love and compassion, Mother Teresa, of her own Free Will, took the opportunity to help the poor of Calcutta . . .
and . . . a group of entities, individuations of God, of their own Free Will, took the role of the sick, the poor and the starving of Calcutta.

  • For Churchill (and the world) to have the experience of triumph over tyranny, Churchill, of his own Free Will, took the opportunity to lead a nation in crisis . . .
and . . . a group of entities, individuations of God, of their own Free Will, took the role of tyrant: Hitler, Goebbels and Himmler . . .
and . . . a group of entities, individuations of God, of their own Free Will, took the roles of German, Polish, Dutch and Hungarian Jews – just some of the victims of that tyranny.

At the beginning of this article I said this was one of the most challenging aspects of the ego and of spirituality to understand and accept. But there is a “Divine Logic” in seeing events such as World War II and the plight of the poor of Calcutta as being parts of the illusion that add depth to the weave of a vast tapestry of billions of spiritual experiences spanning hundreds of thousands of years (accepting of course that time itself is part of the illusion!).

If we accept we are all individuations of One Unconditionally Loving God then events such as these, despite how unfair and unjust they may appear, must be fair and just for all – to be any other way would not be unconditionally loving.

BUT . . .

  • There is nothing fair and just about an entity individuating into the physical form of a Jewess and dying in a concentration camp at the age of 6 because a “tyrant” like Hitler, decided she should do so.
  • There is nothing fair and just about an entity individuating into the physical form of an Indian born into the slums of Calcutta and dying in the gutter of disease and starvation.

What is fair is this:

  • An entity, or group of entities, individuations of an Unconditionally Loving God, can, of their own Free Will, after hundreds, maybe thousands of life experiences, choose to play the role of “victim” in just the same way an actor may accept a challenging role. As an individuation of God the entity cannot be murdered in a concentration camp, or die of disease and starvation – the entity can however choose to experience such things as part of its Spiritual evolution and to assist other entities in theirs.

  • An entity, or group of entities, individuations of an Unconditionally Loving God, can, of their own Free Will, after hundreds, maybe thousands of life experiences, choose to play the role of “tyrant” in just the same way an actor may accept a challenging role. As an individuation of God this entity cannot “murder” another entity or harm it in any way – the entity can however choose to experience such things as part of its Spiritual evolution and to assist other entities in theirs.

Now we can complete the answer to the questions posed at the beginning of this month’s article:

  • By individuating into the role of tyrant an entity creates the opportunity for another entity to experience being a victim.
  • By individuating into the role of tyrant an entity creates the opportunity for another entity to experience being a hero.
  • By individuating into the role of defeated tyrant the world has the opportunity to experience victory over tyranny – and peace.

So far I have been playing it safe by using the examples of World War II and the plight of the poor of Calcutta [9]. What happens when we apply this “we are all One” logic to events such as 9/11, the London bombings, the beheading of hostages in Iraq, the Asian Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina?

The resistance we feel to accepting more recent events, closer to home (for most of us) as also being part of this illusion is being created by the same thing creating the illusion itself – our ego. Very few people in the wake of the media storm that follows such events are able to detach themselves from the drama and tide of emotion this events create and it is the emotion that makes the illusion real.

From the perspective of our Spirit, the individuation of an Unconditionally Loving God, which can never be harmed, it is the interplay of the illusion of good and evil, life and death, hero and tyrant that makes the totality of the experience of “life on Earth” interesting! It keeps our Spirit “turning the pages”.

Conclusion
Personally I find it difficult to remember that someone I dislike is another “individuation of God” and just an “illusion” (of my own creation as we shall see!). But there is a “Divine Logic” in this being so, regardless of my inability to see “God Being God in all God’s distressing disguises” in the face of that person.

Ultimately we are all actors in a vast play we call “Being Human” and just like an actor we pretend to be someone we are not – we pretend to be separate from each other and separate from God. The real you behind the pretence cannot be harmed – but may choose to experience hurt, cannot die – but chooses to experience death.

In the Realm of the Relative, let’s call it “playground Earth” [10], using the tool of the ego, God has created a huge cast of Free Thinking entities who conspire with each other, to present to each other the opportunities to have a spectrum of experiences. It is the ego that judges other entities and judges experiences as being “good” or “bad”. From the perspective of the Spirit all are experiences - and experience is the only game in town!

Next Month
Ultimately we are here for one reason: to experience God Being. To do this we need an experience collection “vehicle”. This vehicle needs to be equipped with some delicate sensors and some very sophisticated recording equipment – it looks like (the illusion of) that body you are wearing right now will do the job very nicely – find out how next month!

Footnotes for this Month’s Article
[1]  we need to bear in mind “evil” and “sadism” is part of the illusion too! No one, and no thing can be inherently evil or sadistic if we accept that everything and everyone is an individuation of an Unconditionally Loving God.
[2]  this is a based on a quote from Mother Teresa.
[3]  many believe our role or mission in the Realm of the Relative has been “assigned” to us by God. If we accept God as Unconditionally Loving, such an assignment is impossible because to dictate what our Mission (or anything else) will be, would not be unconditionally loving, nor is there any point in giving us Free Will if God is going to dictate how we use it!

[10]  If this is all an illusion there is no reason why there shouldn’t be other planets and places for entities to play – if we are all One even aliens must be individuations of God!
